RESEARCH / PARKS & PUBLIC SPACE
Keep the places residents already love—and make them usable
Parks, paths and gathering spaces are daily-life priorities. Cleanliness and access deserve the same attention as major new projects.

What people value already
In an October 7 r/mississauga neighbourhood discussion, individual contributors praised Lake Aquitaine, connected Meadowvale paths and places to walk. These accounts show how some residents use and appreciate local green space. They are not a citywide satisfaction survey, but they help make the conversation about everyday access concrete.

A current City review
At its September 29 meeting, Council directed staff to examine litter and illegal-dumping responses. The published recap includes recurring hotspots, bin placement, education, reporting and enforcement tools. This was a direction to study options and report back; it should not be presented as proof that a new citywide cleanup standard has already been delivered.

Campaign commitments to compare
Dipika Damerla proposes a Clean Parks Guarantee with more proactive seasonal enforcement and targeted collection. Residents can ask any campaign where additional staffing would go, how cleanliness would be measured and how costs would be funded. The practical test is whether a busy local park becomes cleaner and more welcoming, not simply whether a guarantee is announced.

Safe public space can start near school
The City is accepting applications for its 2026/2027 School Streets pilot, with participation requiring community support. Its background page reports improved walking and driver compliance in previous pilots; results from the May 2026 site were still to be published when checked. Ask which local public-space improvements could be tested and evaluated before expanding them.
